This is the forum to sign up if INTERESTED in competing in the Orlando Coffee Roasting Competition.*
*This is NOT the final forum that will be used to compete, this forum is ONLY to reflect the interested parties who are willing to compete in 2025. A new forum will be posted at a later date, closer to the competition, should enough participants decide they would like to compete.*
The Orlando Coffee Roasting Competition will have a buy in of $100 per roaster. Your coffee will be graded by three judges, to give an accurate and feasible score of your competition coffee. All money collected from participants will be added to a pool, in which the winner of the competition will win ALL of the money in said pool of cash. Second and third place will receive non-monetary awards from the event's sponsors.
The event will be hosted in one day, with an award ceramony hosted at the end of the day of the event. The top 3 winners will be announced, awarded, along with honorable mentions for those who had exceptional coffees but did not place top 3.
The judging panel will consist of three judges, originating from the state of Florida. These judges will cup Five Bowls of the entered coffee (per roaster) as well as make a pour over of each entered coffee.
These judges will give both positive and negative feedback based on the following criteria:
- Accuracy of flavor descriptors
- Tactile experience
- Consistency of cup quality
- Green coffee grading
- Roasted coffee grading
- Roast chart analysis
Each roaster should provide their own coffee to enter the competition. There are no limits on the coffee you may choose, so be creative with what you decide to present to the judges!
Each roaster will need to provide the following:
- 500g (grams) of green coffee
- 2lbs of roasted coffee (recommended at least one week off roast)
- Flavor descriptors of coffee
- Chart for roasted coffee
- Pour over recipe
- As much origin detail as possible on entered coffee
